UNITAMS Leads a Delegation of UN Agencies to the Blue Nile Region to Discuss Opportunities for Peacebuilding with Local Communities

From May 10 to 17, the UNITAMS peacebuilding team joined by colleagues from UN OCHA, WFP, UNHCR, UNDP, UNICEF, UN Women, UNFPA, UNMAS, OHCRH and IOM visited the Blue Nile Region. The delegation spoke with women, youth, civil society leaders and local authorities to learn more about the drivers of conflict and peacebuilding needs at the grassroots level.

The findings from the trip will inform a peacebuilding assessment currently conducted by UNITAMS with the goal of identifying opportunities for peacebuilding planning and program design for the UN and its partners .

The Blue Nile peacebuilding assessment is one in a series of assessments currently being undertaken in six States of Sudan: North and South Darfur, Blue Nile, South Kordofan, Red Sea, Kassala. The assessments support the delivery of UNITAMS’ mandate (UNSC/RES2579) to facilitate peacebuilding in Sudan.
