A message by Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Volker Perthes On the International Day of Peace

Volker Perthes's message on Peace Day: "I stress the right of Sudanese women &men to a just comprehensive & lasting peace. The continued violence is due to not addressing root causes & is fueled by hate speech, intolerance of differences &absence of accountability mechanisms

"Peaceful coexistence needs those who defend peace. Peace can't be achieved & sustained without the participation and solidarity of communities and without ensuring equal citizenship and combating discrimination. All of this requires civilian rule, democracy & the rule of law"
