The Secretary-General held a trilateral meeting today with the leader of the Greek Cypriot community, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, and the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Mr. Ersin Tatar. The Secretary-General welcomed the implementation of several important trust-building measures agreed during the two informal meetings on Cyprus, which he hosted in March and July of this year, while noting that some initiatives remained pending.

The Secretary-General decided to send his Personal Envoy on Cyprus for consultations to prepare for an informal meeting in a broader format as soon as possible. The Secretary-General underlined the continued steadfast commitment of the United Nations to a peaceful resolution of the Cyprus issue for the benefit of all Cypriots.
